Sir Roger Casement: A Revolutionary Journey

Major exhibition: Casement’s path from servant of the Crown to Irish nationalist that led to the gallows in Pentonville Prison; the road to independence for Ireland with the first stepping stone of the Easter Rising; the experience of the Kerry people whose lives were transformed by the events of 1916.
The exhibition provides a unique opportunity for people to engage with the national story in 1916 outside of Dublin. Casement’s landing in Banna was one of the few significant events of the Easter Rising to happen outside of the capital, and it had a national and international impact. The Rising was an attempt to establish a nation state for the whole country. The Museum will provide a space for people to reflect on how the events of the period were experienced beyond the capital.
Casement’s international contribution as a humanitarian is still relatively unfamiliar to many outside of the academic world. This is a global story that will resonate not only with Irish people but with all international visitors.

Ruairí Mhic Easmainn: Aistear Réabhlóideach
• Mórthaispeántas: Aistear Mhic Easmainn ó sheirbhíseach na Corónach go dtí náisiúnaí Éireannach gur crochadh é ar deireadh i bPríosún Pentonville; an bóthar i dtreo neamhspleáchas na hÉireann agus Éirí Amach na Cásca mar chloch chora; eispéireas mhuintir Chiarraí a ndearna imeachtaí 1916 a saol a chlaochlú.
• Tugann an taispeántas deis uathúil do dhaoine dul i ngleic leis an scéal náisiúnta in 1916 lasmuigh de Bhaile Átha Cliath. Bhí teacht i dtír Mhic Easmainn ar thrá na Beannaí ar cheann den bheagán imeachtaí tábhachtacha le linn Éirí Amach na Cásca a tharla lasmuigh den phríomhchathair, agus d’imir sé tionchar náisiúnta agus idirnáisiúnta. Iarracht a bhí san Éirí Amach stát náisiúnta sa tír; soláthrófar spás sa Mhúsaem do dhaoine chun machnamh a dhéanamh ar imeachtaí na linne agus a dtionchar lasmuigh den phríomhchathair.
Is beag cur amach go fóill atá ag daoine lasmuigh den saol acadúil ar pháirt idirnáisiúnta Mhic Easmainn mar dhaonnúlach. Scéal domhanda é seo lena mbeidh dáimh ní hamháin ag Éireannaigh, ach ag gach duine dár gcuairteoirí idirnáisiúnta.

Fleasc a Leagan ag Trá na Beannaí in onóir do Ruairí Mhic Easmainn. Tabharfaidh Uachtarán na hÉireann Micheál D. Ó hUigínn faoi na dualgais oifigiúla.

This is the only memorial event he will attend outside Dublin.

Back in 1966 over 3,000 people attended the 50th anniversary. Now with modern media including, of course, social media the Ardfert area can expect an invasion of interested tourists.

Ardfert Development Association has been working tirelessly behind the scenes, liaising with Kerry County Council, OPW and the President’s own staff to make this a very special day for all concerned.
We hope to be in a position to give details of a programme of events shortly.
