GARVEY’S SUPERVALU SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL:

St. Brendan’s and Lixnaw have to do it all over again after a nail biting draw last Sunday 1-10 to 0-13. After a slow start St. Brendan’s got a grip on the game and did well in the first half to go in at half time 0-8 to 0-6. A poor start by St. Brendan’s in the second half let Lixnaw gain momentum and rack up scores while we were held scoreless for nearly 20 minutes and at one stage the scoreboard read Lixnaw 1-10 St. Brendan’s 0-8 and it looked all over for St. Brendan’s, but then the game took off and vital unanswered points from St. Brendan’s gave us a lifeline and a chance for a replay. Our support was massive and we hope for more of the same in the replay. The Man of the Match was awarded to John Egan, who once again kept our hopes alive.

KEANE’S MINOR CO. CHAMPIONSHIP: St. Brendan’s v South Kerry date is to be decided by Kerry Co. Board.

NK U15 A FINAL: St. Brendan’s met Crotta in the NK A U-15 final under lights in Abbeydorney on Wednesday 9th Oct. A cold cross field breeze sharpened the exchanges and scores were hard to come by in the first half with both teams guilty of missed chances. At half time St. Brendan’s led by 5 points to Crotta’s 3 points and the game was up for grabs. Several frees were conceded by both sides but it was St. Brendan’s who gained the most with Eric Leen converting eight frees over the hour to Crotta’s four. It was the St. Brendan’s defenders who came to the fore with several strong individual performances by Aaron Thompson, Shane O Mahony and a roving Fionan Mackessy who seemed to be everywhere. The final score was St. Brendan’s 1-14 Crotta 0-7. Cormac O Shea accepted the Johnny Hussey Memorial Trophy from Mikey Leahy NKHB, a fitting end to a great season of hurling for the underage teams in Ardfert. ARDFERT N.S.: In the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol shield quarter final game played in Na Gaeil pitchon Thursday last we came with a late rally to see off the stern challenge of a determined Moyderwell side. Though dominating possession in the opening half we trailed at half time by two points 1-4 to 0-5. Moyderwell stretched the lead to four early in the second half but thanks to a pair of Darragh Courtney points and a speculative goal by Nathan O Driscoll we edged ahead entering the last five minutes. Our backs, thanks to sterling performances from Ciara Mc Carthy, Jessica Murphy and the ever improving Aaron Malik kept the Tralee boys at bay and a pointed free at the end from the towering Darragh Courtney helped settle the sideline nerves. Other scorers on the day were Billy Daly, Michael Kirby, Pádraig o Sullivan and Oisín Horgan. Kate O Shea who gave an inspiring performance in the half forward line also contributed hugely to the victory. Final score in this Allianz Cumann na mBunscol game Ardfert 1-8 Moyderwell 1-6.
On Thursday we play Gaelscoil Aogáin Castleisland in the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol shield semi final. Finally well done to the St. Brendan’s hurlers on snatching the draw on Sunday agus go néirí libh in the replay.
