ST. BRENDAN'S HURLING CLUB: FUNDRAISING CALENDARS: A limited number of calendars celebrating our 2013 year of hurling including pictures of senior, minor and juvenile teams are on sale now at €10 each on a first come first served basis, and are available at horgan's Centra, Maguire's Spar & The Abbey Tavern. We are selling these calendars to try and raise funds to defray some expenses incurred during the year and appreciate any support.
AGM: St. Brendan's AGM takes place this Friday 31st Jan. at 8pm at Ardfert NS (by kind permission). As usual there are always plenty of opportunities for former hurlers, parents and interested locals to get involved with the various teams, fundraising, field maintenance, etc. and of course ladies are most welcome to get involved especially with helping out with the underage teams. HURLING COACHING WEEKEND: Kerry Hurling Steering Committee are organising a “Hurling Coaching Weekend” aimed at improving the standard of coaching, planning and administration throughout the hurling clubs in the county. Venue: Causeway Comprehensive School, Wall ball, GAA pitch and sports hall. Date: Friday, 31st of January from 7pm to 9.30pmSaturday, 1st of Februaryfrom 10am to 1.30pmContact Secretary Geraldine Delaney if interested in going.      
LOTTO: The St. Brendan's Hurling Club / Ardfert G.A.A. lotto Jackpot this week was €1,000.  The numbers drawn were 9, 19, 22, 25.   There was no winner. The draw took place in Curby's Bar.  The lucky dip winners were: €75 Tom Kelly, Tubrid, €40 Marie Slattery, Ardfert, €25 Simon Lenihan, c/o KCC. Lotto Jackpot is now €1,100. The next lotto draw will take place on Tuesday, 28th January in Kate Browne's Pub at 10.15p.m. Thanks to all who support our local lotto / Míle buíochas
HURLING HISTORY: On this Thursday, 30 January at Ardfert Retreat Centre there will be a local history talk titled ‘Ardfert – a hurling history’. This is one of the Ardfert Historical Lecture Series / Sraith Staire Ard Fhearta which take place each month at the venue. All members of the local community are invited to attend. While there is no formal charge, those attending are requested to make a donation which will go towards the upkeep of the Retreat Centre.  This week’s talk will be given by Tommy O’Connor and it gets underway at 8.00p.m.       

PLOUGHING MATCH: Ardfert Annual Ploughing Match takes place this Sunday February 1st on the lands of Mr. Dominic O Flaherty, Banna (by kind permission). Ploughing begins at 12 noon. 

AAI U23 INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP: On Sunday 26th January 2014 PJ Galvin the sole athlete from St. Brendan’s competed at the AAI Indoors in Athlone. Well done PJ. He competed at U23 & finished 2nd in the High Jump with 1.90m. Unfortunately PJ didn’t medal in either the 60m sprint or 60m hurdles.  Next up for hime is the AAI games next weekend 2nd February.

The AGM for Ardfert/Kilmoyley community games took place in Cul Mhuire, Ardfert on Friday 24th January 2014 at 9pm.  Albeit a very small turnout a new committee was elected for the coming year.  Many previous officers stood down & thanks were extended to them on their many years’ service to the committee.  The new committee comprises of: Chairperson Paschal Hurley, Vice-Chairperson Brendan Courtney, Secretary Kirstie Nowak, Assistant -Secretary Trina McCorry, Treasurer Siobhán O’ Connor, PRO Orla Fitzgerald, Development Officer Deirdre Courtney, Children’s Officer Siobhán Hussey, Youth Officer David McElligott, Committee Colleen Shields, Nicola O’ Connor, Marie Roche & Eddie Morrison.                                       

ARDFERT/KILMOYLEY COMMUNITY GAMES: DRAUGHTS for U10, U12, and U14 boys and girls on Fridays from 6-7pm in Ardfert Community Centre.  There is a charge of €1 to cover the cost of room hire.  Children should bring their own draughts board.  Any queries phone Siobhan on 087-2041283.

 ARDFERT GIRL GUIDES: A new Ardfert Girl Guiding unit has started and leaders are recruiting for 2014. Girls must be 10 and a half up to 15 years old. Meeting each Monday night at the Retreat Centre Ardfert from 7 to 8.30.  Girls will have an opportunity to try new activities, make new friends, discover the outdoors  and learn to make our world a nicer place to live !
