KERRY SPORTS STAR AWARDS: The Rentikil Initial Kerry Sport Star Awards Gala Banquet took place last Friday night at the Malton Hotel Killarney and three Ardfert sportspeople came away with awards, Darren Dineen (hurling), Liam Dowling (Greyhounds), and Sinead Mackessy (Young Female Sports Person of the year).  There were three nominees for most of the 24 categories with the winners announced on the night.  The event aimed to honour the individual sports men and women throughout the county for their pure dedication and effort to prove themselves in the sporting world.  Some of the other high profile sports people to receive awards were JJ Hanrahan (rugby), John O Regan (Special achievement Soccer), Louise Ni Mhuircheartaigh (Ladies Football), Siobhan Fleming (Ladies rugby), Maria Daly & Ashley Prendiville (handball), Colm Cooper (football), James Broderick (darts), Sean Lacey (cycling), Liam Culloty (basketball), Laura Crowe (athletics), John Lenihan (Hall of Fame) and Bryan Cooper who won the Horse racing award and also received the Ken O Day Supreme Sports Person of the Year Award.  550 people enjoyed a great meal with music afterwards by the Heart & Soul Band, and got a chance to see all these great Kerry sports people and hear the winners being interviewed. Congratulations to all involved in the great night and to our local winners. Also nominated from Ardfert were John Egan (hurling) and Danny Barnes (rugby).  
ST. BRENDAN'S HURLING CLUB: Juvenile registrations and medal presentations will take place this Saturday night March 1st at Ardfert Community Centre beginning at 6.30pm with registrations and followed by the medal presentations at 7.30pm.  Family rates for membership,are available.  The juvenile Team of the Year will also be announced.  We hope to have a large attendance as we will have the Neilus Flynn and Sean Lovett cups on display.  

HURLING CUL CAMP in Ardfert this year is from 14-18th July.  Application forms will be available later on in the year. 

LOTTO: The St. Brendan's Hurling Club / Ardfert G.A.A. lotto Jackpot this week was €1,400. The numbers drawn were 7, 15, 20, 25.   There was no winner. The draw took place in Curby's Bar. The lucky dip winners were: €75   Keith O'Prey, Banemore, €40  Joe Costello c/o Abbey Tavern,  €25 Billy O'Connell, East Park.  Lotto Jackpot is now €1,500.  The next lotto draw was due to take place on Tuesday, 25th February in the Abbey Tavern. ARDFERT RETREAT CENTRE:  The Retreat Centre in association with Miracle Hill Theatre will present a preview of the drama of Mark's Gospel on Tues. 25th Feb. 8 pm – contribution €15 with refreshments  – this will be presented each Friday during Lent  8 pm and Mon-Sat. of Holy Week and Easter Week.

Centering Prayer:  An introductory workshop into the method of Centering Prayer, consisting of four short presentations and two 20 minute periods of Centering Prayer in silence,  on Sat. March 1st,  2:00pm to  5:30pm  facilitated by Mike Culloty, Tralee.  All are welcome on the day.   Tuesday 11th March an Evening for Ministers of the Eucharist 8pm facilitated by Fr. COMMUNITY GAMES: Indoor Soccer:  Training continues in Ardfert Community Centre for both the girls U10 & U13.  Any queries contact Trina 086-8225882. Draughts: U10, U12 and U14 boys and girls on Fridays from 6-7pm in Ardfert Community Centre.  There is a charge of €1 to cover the cost of room hire.  Children should bring their own draughts board.  Any queries phone Siobhan on 087-2041283. REHAB COLLECTION: Total amount collected at last Sunday's Church Gate Collection in Ardfert was €308. Many thanks for all the support.

ARDFERT CYCLING GROUP: After a break due to the poor weather the Ardfert Cycling group will be back in action this Sunday 2nd March, meeting at Ardfert Medical Centre at 9am. Cyclists must be over 16 years of age and helmets are essential. Any cyclist training for the Ring of Kerry cycle in July or any other cycle race is most welcome to join our Sunday morning group. FASHION SHOW FUNDRAISER @ Sliabh A'Mhadra National School Parents Association are holding a Fashion Show Fundraiser on Friday March 7th 2014.  Tickets available from the school or from Ross's Mace shop.  The show takes place at The Carlton Hotel Tralee commencing with a drinks reception at 19:30.  The show is produced by Norma O Donoghue model agency and the MC is Alan Finn of Radio Kerry.  The show features collections from top boutiques, designers and milliners.  Tickets are €15.00 and are available from the Parents Association.
