ATHLETICS / CROSS COUNTRY: Day 1.  The first day of the Kerry cross country championships saw the juveniles in even age groups and novice category starting the season in Killarney. After a long spell of dry weather conditions, the field in the Demesne was in great condition and there was a good turnout of athletes. St. Brendan's AC had a small group of athletes competing and for some this was their very first cross country experience.
We started with Lilly Nowak in Girls U10 (1000m) and she did an excellent job, placing in the middle of the over 30 strong pack, running one year out of her age. Next in line were our U12 girls (2000m), again with a high number of runners. Daisy Nowak & Sadbh Lowth also competed in a higher age group category with both finishing in the middle of the field. Stand out performance of the day belonged to Eimear O'Sullivan in her first ever cross country race at U12 as she ran a strong race and placed 8th. In the Men's Novice race (6000m) we had Artur Nowak & Dariusz Odwazny battling hard but finishing outside of the medal positions. Well done to all athletes for great performances on the day and hoping for more of the same (or better) next week in Kenmare on Day 2 of the cross country championships with juveniles, uneven ages and masters categories.

KERRY MOTOR CLUB: 25th Anniversary Banna Beach Resort Kerry Winter Rally.  The ever-popular Banna Beach Resort Rally will celebrate its 25th anniversary on November 9th.  The rally, as well as being the final round of the Top Part West Coast Rally Championship, is always regarded as an end of season party by the rally crews.  Clerk of the course Senan Ragget has promised a challenging route to ensure an action packed weekend for the 130 or so competitors who are expected to enter. He has chosen a compact, six-stage rally, using variations of special stages in the north Kerry area traditionally reserved for Kerry Motor Club’s Dunlop Irish National Rally Championship counting Circuit of Kerry. New for this year will be the inclusion of the world-famous Listowal Racecourse as the event’s service area. Entry forms and regulations will published on www.kerrymotorclub.com once they have been approved by Motorsport Ireland.
