Tommy O Connor from Ardfert Village is the author & the book runs to 248 glossy pages with a store of photographs & historical facts about the North Kerry Hurling Board since it’s inception. Photographs of various North Kerry teams over the years, Banna senior hurlers, Ardfert seniors, Kerry hurling teams, St. Brendan’s underage teams, camogie teams are all included, as well as detailed lists of all the former Board Officers & delegates. The book will be on sale at €20. We wish Tommy & the NKHB the very best of luck with this book. The book was launched by the President of the GAA Aogán O Fearghail. Also in attendance & who spoke on the night were MEP Sean Kelly, Munster Council Chairman Robert Frost, Kerry Co. Board Vice Chairman Diarmuid O Shea, North Kerry Board Officers Seán Seosamh Ó Conchubhair, Joe Walsh & Ger Doyle, & TD Jimmy Deenihan. Lixnaw Comhaltas Group provided the musical entertainment before the event started. Former NKHB delegates & former & current Club Officers also attended. ARDFERT LOCAL HISTORY LECTURE SERIES / SRAITH LÉACHTAÍ STAIRE ARD FHEARTA 2015 / 2016 began last Thursday with a talk on Wether’s Well & other North Kerry holy wells by Dónal Stack. It was well attended & Donal proved to be a mine of information on lesser known Holy wells in North Kerry. The lecture series continues on Thursday, 19th Nov. – Memoirs of Olive Trench – daughter of an Ardfert land agent [Tommy O’Connor]. Thursday, 3rd Dec. – 100 years ago – Ardfert in 1915 [Tommy O’Connor]. Thursday, 28th Jan. – Ardfert witnesses at the Casement trial [Helen O ’Carroll]. Thursday, 18th Feb. – Ardfert Placenames [Ciarán Dalton] Thursday, 31st March – Ardfert video & photos from the archives [Steve Baker]. ARDFERT/KILMOYLEY COMMUNITY GAMES: We will hold our AGM this Thursday 22ndOctober at 9pm in Cul Mhuire. Everyone is welcome. We had great success in 2015 and hope to build on this in 2016. New members are urgently required to ensure the continued success of this great organisation in our parish.
