AAI JUVENILE INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP 2016: The National Indoors Athletic Championships took place at the weekend 12th & 13th March in the national arena at AIT, Athlone. St. Brendan’s AC athlete Darragh Courtney was competing on Sunday in two events, both the 60m hurdles & high jump in the U16 age category. Darragh placed 2nd in the high jump with a clearance of 1.80m. To finish off a very long day, Darragh also came 2nd in the 60m hurdles in what was a very close run competition. Wonderful news for this athlete to be bringing home two national silver medals! Well done Darragh. ARDFERT/ KILMOYLEY COMMUNITY GAMES: Well done to the U10 girls soccer team which finished 3rd overall in their Community games tournament last Saturday in Milltown. The girls fought hard for the Bronze medal and played some great soccer. They were drawn in a group with Moyvane and Beaufort. They won 3-1 against Beaufort but lost 1-2 against Moyvane. This meant that Ardfert/ Kilmoyley met with Rathmore for 3rdspot and they won 2-1. Thanks to everyone who contributed to a great day in Milltown. Thanks also to coach Arthur Nowak. Team: Lilly Nowak (Captain), Ruth O’Connor (vice-captain), Sarah Harris (goalie), Aoibhinn Ferris, Belle McDonagh, Maire O’Connor, Ashley Baxter, Ciara Collins. On Sunday morning 13th March, the U10, U12 & U14 Draughts teams competed in Listowel. Our U14 team had a very tough draw and in spite of their very valiant efforts, they were beaten by a stronger Ballyheigue team. The team members were Colin Kenny, Oisin Dowling, Keith O’Mahony, Eimear O’Sullivan, Rian Kenny O’Sullivan and Fionán Egan. Our U12 team draughts team were beaten in the Semi-Finals by a very strong Ballydonoghue team but won the play-off for 3rd place and came home with bronze medals. A big well done to Fiachra O’Connor, Adam Renai, Dónal O’Sullivan, Timmy McElligott, Tom O’Flaherty, Jack Moriarty and Jamie O’Sullivan. However, the achievement of the day goes to our U10 team who won Gold Medals having beaten Ballydonoghue in the semi-final and Duagh/Lyre in the final. The victorious county champions are Liam Óg O’Connor, Caoilinn Kenny O’Sullivan, Caragh Kenny O’Sullivan, Keelin Best, Shane O’Connor and Máire O’Connor. Tag Rugby (non-contact) training for theU11 and U14 (mixed) continues every Sunday evening at Banna Astro Turf at 4.30-5.30pm. All welcome to join the fun. Coaches are looking for people to participate in the U14 category. Community games competition takes place on the 22nd May in the IT Tralee. Venue: Tralee RFC, Co Kerry We have the honour of hosting visitors from Canada & our players have been looking forward to meeting Mayfield College and are very excited in playing a game of rugby. Our team consists of girls playing from the Listowel and Tralee Clubs & our teams have had a very successful season by getting to finals in both the U15 and U18 teams. Both Clubs have been setting up their own U13 teams, which in time will double the amount of girls participating in rugby in Kerry. We are always looking for new players of all abilities.
