Another plea from the Tidy Town Group to respect the bottle bank and its environs. Most people appreciate these bottle bank facilities and the contribution they makes to recycling and protecting the environment. However, over recent months the bottle bank in the Abbey Car Park has begun to attract people who appear to believe that it functions as a general waste facility. In addition to the recent appearance of redundant electrical items, a double mattress, broken mirrors and coal and ashes from a domestic grate, the most regular dumping is of household waste. Mouldy bread, empty potato skins, filthy clothing and plastic waste make regular appearances. The volunteers in the Group clear this rubbish weekly but if the facility continues to be abused by a few individuals in this way we will look seriously at asking the Council to remove it.
