BOTTLE BANK: Another plea from the Tidy Town Group to respect the bottle bank and its environs. Most people appreciate these bottle bank facilities and the contribution they makes to recycling and protecting the environment. However, over recent months the bottle bank in the Abbey Car Park has begun to attract people who appear to believe that it functions as a general waste facility. In addition to the recent appearance of redundant electrical items, a double mattress, broken mirrors and coal and ashes from a domestic grate, the most regular dumping is of household waste. Mouldy bread, empty potato skins, filthy clothing and plastic waste make regular appearances. The volunteers in the Group clear this rubbish weekly but if the facility continues to be abused by a few individuals in this way we will look seriously at asking the Council to remove it.
ARDFERT/KILMOYLEY COMMUNITY GAMES: It was a very busy weekend for Ardfert/Kilmoyley at Community Games competitions. On Sunday 2nd April, the area had two teams in action at the Munster finals which were  held at UL. Both our Draughts U12 and Tag Rugby U14 had qualified as the County champions and were now competing against the best in Munster.
U14 Tag rugby team finished in silver medal position, losing out to Co. Clare in what was a very hard fought final. Well done to all the team who played magnificently in the tournament and a special thank you to their mentors: John O'Sullivan, Eddie Morrisson and Liam O'Connor.
It was a sliver medal for the U12 draughts team also who did themselves proud and played some excellent draughts. Thank you to their mentor Siobhan O'Connor.
The notes had gone to print last Sunday when word came through that Ethan Fitzgerald had scooped Silver for the area in the Gymnastics tournament, adding to previous medals earned by this talented young gymnast. Well done Ethan.
